This past week’s show is available on the archives page. In the second hour we we telephoned experimental musician Heath Moerland aka Sick Lama founder of the fag tapes cassette label. Heath performed at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit last Saturday with his reeds and electronics duet Slither, as part of MOCAD’s STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL MUSIC II . Hear him talk about Dolphins, Alaska, Graveyards, Emeralds and listen to a mix tape he sent us (yes, actual cassette) of his favorite Rock, Pop and Dub albums.

The Republican National Convention in St. Paul is over, but the repercussions from the outrageous police crackdown on dissent and on journalists is just getting started. Asheville filmmaker Rebecca MacNeice was in the thick of it, and she’ll give us an eyewitness account.
“Jesus was a community organizer, but Pontious Pilate was a Governor.” David will walk us through an in-depth look at the Republican nominee for Vice-President, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Finally, there has been some discussion in the local media about controversy here at WPVM. The Mountain Area Information Network(MAIN) holds WPVM’s broadcast license. MAIN’s Board of Directors is meeting during our show tonight; we hope to have some news to relay to our listeners about WPVM’s future. No promises, though. Ignore all rumors. Fight the power. Jump up & down. Stand on one foot. More later…

This week on Veterans’ Voices we talk with Jason Hurd and other IVAW members to see what’s up in Minneapolis for the RNC. When we spoke to him last week, they were at the DNC about to do Operation First Casualty.
Independent news sources describe mass arrests in preemptive raids of activists in Minneapolis. Amy Goodman, among those arrested, states that almost 300 people have already been arrested by the end of the first day of the convention.
Jason Hurd and other IVAW members during Operation First Casualty in Denver during DNC.
If you missed last week’s interview with Dr. Russell McCrimmon and Ron Kennedy from the Veterans’ shelter, get it before it’s gone.
Tune in to Veterans’ Voices at 5 pm every Wednesday or stream/podcast here.

In solidarity with our former Monday night showmates 7 Layer Dip and in keeping with the silent beats from our radio sisters at Drop Beats Not Bombs, the Kraken runs silent tonight. We’ll still have plenty of music but without all that talking. Who knows, you might like it better. Go to wpvm.org to view the playlist. Check it out tonight from 8-10pm.

To show our support for fellow volunteers at the station; in honor of the hard work and dedication given by them, and to protest recent decisions unfairly made regarding the cancellation of “7 Layer Dip”, Molly and Lucia have opted to host DROP BEATS NOT BOMBS this Saturday, August 30, 8-10pm, in silence.
We will continue to play all your favorite beats and rhymes and will even be available for requests, but will remain silent hosts until further notice. Our interview scheduled for this week with 1865 will be recorded and saved for another show. Please stream online or access our archive for a playlist. Thank you for your love, support and listening ears.
Peace.
