The nonprofit Mountain Area Information Network (MAIN) is seeking retired and semi-retired business executives to help assess and oversee the organization’s business practices.
MAIN has a unique business model. Since 1996, MAIN has operated as an Internet service provider (ISP) serving a multi-county region of WNC. This ISP operation includes broadband Internet access via wireless technologies, as well as web-hosting services catering to local residents, small businesses, nonprofits, and local government agencies. MAIN also operates a low-power FM radio station and a news and information web portal.
As one of the nation’s oldest community networks, MAIN is in the forefront of policy advocacy for broadband equity in rural and low-income communities. In 2008, MAIN was the first local organization elected to the national Media and Democracy Coalition, which coordinates public-interest, media-reform advocacy at the federal level. I am a retired COO who can help oversee and assess MAIN business practices. I have done that for corporations as a consultant. My fees have been reduced to fit the economic climate that we presently face.
