Ooze Out Update: Let’s get minimal!

November 17, 2008 by onair

First of all, thanks to all of you who donated to our fall fun drive. Ooze Out shirts will ship soon, cassettes in December. The past few weeks we have been meditating on crystals we’ve placed on top of a picture of Mick Mars and hearing voices that say “they are in the west go to them…vampires”. We don’t know what this means, but friends have compared this experience to something called Quija board experience. We don’t know what a Quija is, but we will be investigating this concept during the first hour of this week’s broadcast. In our second hour we will loosely explore the idea of minimalism in music. This is a photo of Linda Perhacs. She is not a minimalist, except for her outfit. We will be playing her music as well.

Best,
Peter H Poffenberger

SARK-O-BAMA & the EGREGOR of the 6 of November !

A PLANET EGREGOR !

A week ago the entire planet came into a rare moment of what I call an EGREGOR . A moment when spirits are joining each others communicating joy to each other at a large scale influencing and choosing a savior , or a knight or anyone . A gigantic party at the planet level in fact !
What is an egregor?

An ‘egregor’ (or ‘egregore’) is not a word one would find in a dictionary or on the internet.
Around the year 1985, I first came upon the word ‘egregore’ in The Magician, his training and his work, by W. E. Butler, Aquarian Paperback, 1982 (1959), p.155, where Butler writes that:

“A clear idea of the nature of the magical Egregore, or group form, should be built up in the mind in order that the aspirant may understand what part he plays in the whole complex scheme, and thereby may know how closely he is guided and aided in his chosen work.”

With that definition in mind , THE PARIS OF THE SOUTH RADIO HOUR invite you , cordially , to capture another glimse of the EGREGOR before it quickly dissipate .

Making Progress: News for a Change, November 10th 2008

November 10, 2008 by onair

We’ll talk to Mike Hopping about efforts to confront the possibility of nuclear waste traveling through Asheville. Check out Mike’s website here.

Veronika will talk to City Council Member Brownie Newman about the process for filling the soon-to-be-empty seat being vacated by Holly Jones.

We’ll talk to Heather Rayburn and Avram Friedman about Progress Energy’s plan for a Solar Power Plant. Rayburn sees it as a positive redirection by Progress after the public stopped it from building a fossil-fuel power plant in Woodfin in 2007. Friedman sees negative impacts as a direct result of the proposed solar plant.

This local news and public affairs show focuses on underreported information and encourages civic activism. Tune in live 7-8 pm Monday, catch the 1 pm Tuesday rebroadcast, or stream or podcast.

Wordplay welcomes Peter Culley … and Ezra Pound!

November 10, 2008 by onair

For this week’s fall fundraiser we featured the British Columbia author of The Age of Briggs and Stratton, who read just over a week ago at The French Broad Institute of Time and the River. A project of Lee Ann Brown and Tony Torn, the Institute is definitely putting new life in the nightlife of Marshall, NC.

Peter’s done several residencies in the Smokies, now, and they’re beginning to find their way into his work.

We sometimes do archival shows on Wordplay, and have featured readings by Whitman, Tennyson, Yeats, and others whose voices recording technologies have happily saved from time during our three years of broadcasting. Today we featured the great Ezra Pound in readings from 1938 to 1967; he was 82 in the latter year, but still had a strong, complex voice. His reading of Canto LXXXI is exquisite, and poetry doesn’t get much better than that. “What thou lovest well remains, the rest is dross…”

A huge thanks to PennSound for making its Pound archive available through the ‘net.

By the way, you might notice a few pops and distortions during the first minute of Peter’s reading. I’d set up that night to record the stage, but everyone decided to perform on the floor instead. What you hear is me moving the mics to get a more balanced recording. Sorry about that.

Music for today’s show included tunes from the remarkable Anni Rossi, who performed at the Institute as part of the program which included Peter, and California flutist Suzanne Teng.

Do lend it an ear.
