Don Howland on today’s “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” with Greg

July 11, 2008 by onair

Don Howland is an underground rock-n-roll legend, shredding eardrums with his tinny ax and garage-punk high-lonesome vocals in such bands as Wooden Tit (from Asheville), Bassholes, Gibson Bros., and Great Plains for about 3 decades now. He’s coming all the way from his home in West Asheville to spin records and shoot the breeze on the air with Greg during “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”, Friday 2-4 pm. Don’s going up to Columbus, OH, later this summer to record another Bassholes album, so he’ll be talking about that, the Columbus music scene, and god knows what else. If you miss it, catch up by listening to the archive!

Quebec is 400 years old and I know that you care about it.

July 9, 2008 by onair

Why ? Because you are curious.  Relax history nerds…! All questions will be answered.

  • Why are curses in Quebec taken from the Christian sacraments ?
  • What  four words were pronounced by General De Gaulle  in 1967 which almost created a revolution in Quebec ?
  • Is it true that the Quebec language is  the historically “correct” one, having been isolated from the Revolution by the 1760 British Conquest of New France?
  • What is the ” quiet revolution”

If you are tired of listening and not learning anything, the Paris of the South radio hour is bringing knowledge to your ears.  Stay in bed and enjoy the class!Cartier drapeau de gaulle charlebois

Ooze Out Update: Free ipods!

July 7, 2008 by onair

now sounds
It has been brought to the attention of the Ooze Out staff that ipod laced bear traps have been placed around downtown Asheville. If you listen to the Ooze Out Program, please, do not pick up these ipods. Speaking of ipods, did you know that Starbucks recording artists Sonic Youth recently programmed door prize ipods at a benefit for the The Society for the Activation of Social Space through Art and Sound (SASSAS). Patrons of the arts who could afford the 300 $ admission fee got to see performances by bands who couldn’t, Ariel Pink and the Encounter Group, at the home of a Pacific Palisades CA art collector . WPVM listeners will get to hear these group’s blistering sets for free on this week’s edition of the Ooze Out Program, to be broadcast Tuesday July 8th at 10pm. For more of our contiuing dialog on analog vs. digital culture stay tuned for Ooze Out artist interviews starting in the next couple of weeks. For the best of Rock and Experimental from around the world…
